Transgender activists from all over America will converge on Capitol Hill, April 29-30 to lobby Congress for transgender inclusion in, and passage of hate crimes and employment rights legislation. Lobby Days 2004 is sponsored by the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC), the country's largest and most active organization advocating for the rights of transgender Americans at federal, state, and local levels.

Araujo Murder Trial Scheduled to Begin March 29th - 3/27/2004
On October 3, 2002, 17-year-old Gwen Araujo was slowly and brutally murdered at a party after young men with whom she had previously had sex discovered that she was anatomically male. After finishing their "Tony Soprano-type" hit, they drove the teen's body to a site over 150 miles away and buried her in a shallow grave.

Government Omits GLBT From National Healthcare Disparities Report - 3/12/2004
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued the first annual National Healthcare Disparities Report (NHDR) required by the Healthcare Research and Quality Act of 1999, and the report has drawn criticism from numerous directions. NTAC Endorses Transgender Veterans Ceremony - 3/1/2004

NTAC Sets Date for Lobby Days 2004, Schedules Fundraiser - 1/12/2004
The National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC) has announced the dates of its Congressional Lobby Days. The lobbying effort will take place in Washington, DC from April 29 through April 30, 2004, beginning with a plenary training session on April 28. Transgender activists and supporters are asked to mark the dates on their calendars and make plans to join NTAC in educating Congress on the continuing need for nondiscrimination and hate crimes legislation protecting transgender and intersex citizens. full story

NTAC Denounces Federal Marriage Amendment - 12/9/2003
Immediately before the Thanksgiving break, the U.S. Senate submitted a Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA) bill, nearly identical to one submitted in the House by Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) last May. In response, the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC) called the proposal "mean-spirited overkill" designed to send the message that all Americans are not created equally.

Veterans Group Announces Transgender Gathering at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial - 12/4/2003
The Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) has announced the first ever gathering of transgender veterans to honor those who have served and died in the U.S. armed forces. CRITICS RAIL AGAINST SENATE PROMOTION OF GEN. ROBERT CLARK - 11/23/2003
On Tuesday, November 18th, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm the promotion of Major General Robert T. Clark to the rank of Lieutenant General, the Army's second highest rank. The senate confirmation drew rancor from the nation's major Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Organizations, including the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC).

Religious Activists Influencing Congress on Who Receives Health Study Funding - 11/8/2003
This week, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) sent a letter instructing the Dept. of Health & Human Services (HHS) to investigate what may be a sharing of confidential study information to the "religiopolitical extremist" group, Traditional Values Coalition (TVC). The information on study proposals included the authors, the dollar amounts awarded and concise description of the studies which TVC compiled, then passed along to conservative members of Congress for targeting.

California Governor Gray Davis presented the gift of freedom to thousands of his fellow Californians on Saturday, August 2nd. In signing AB196, which clarifies the state's Fair Employment and Housing Act by including gender-identity and expression, Governor Davis brings California into a leadership position of a growing human rights struggle.
